Introduction to Rock Climbing

Have you only ever climbed on plastic indoors or maybe you’ve done scrambling and fancy learning rockclimbing skills? This course is for you.
Whilst you will enjoy climbing in one of the many exciting locations the Peak District has to offer, you will also learn and develop key technical and safety skills for your future climbing adventures.
Whether you are nervous about heights or are looking to push your mental and physical limits you will be encouraged and coached to allow you to gain the skills and confidence to achieve more than you would have thought possible.
This course is therefore just as suitable for complete beginners who have never climbed before as it is for those who have previously climbed indoors and are looking to refresh their skills or get a taste of climbing on real rock.
This introduction course will provide you with:
– Fundamental movement skills and climbing styles
– Footwear and equipment selection and how to use the kit you choose
Technical Skills – Tying into a harness, belaying, spotting and how to abseil
Environmental Knowledge – The impact of climbers at the crag, ethics, access and environmental considerations for climbers
The Peak District National Park offers some of the best Rock Climbing in the country with venues set in picturesque locations including Stanage, Burbage and Froggatt Edge. The venue for this session will be chosen based on weather on the day to ensure maximium opportunity to climb.
