As we move into the winter months with the shorter days, now is a good time to brush up on your night navigation skills so you don’t get caught out walking off the hills in the dark and unable to get back.
A basic level of navigation skills is needed as we will build on these, looking at walking on a bearing, using contours and understanding pacing and timing. Skills learnt will be useful for when your navigating in poor visibility in the day, as skills learnt are all useful in dense fog and dark nights.
We will meet at the junction of the Mount Rd and Manchester Rd, for around 3 hours of wandering around finding features and practicing skills.
Prepare for the weather. You will need to bring:
- Warm Jacket
- Backpack for these
- Any snacks you may need
- Drink (it maybe cold so perhaps bring a flask)
- Headtorch is essential
- Ordnance Survey Map of the Dark Peak OL1
