National Navigation Silver Award

Training and Assessment

A 16 hour course for those with some navigation experience who wish to improve their skills and confidence away from footpaths.

The course covers navigation in the open countryside. You will develop skills required to navigate to features and places some distance from paths and tracks. You will also learn accurate compass work and an ability to use appropriate navigational techniques to go across country in some cases, eg. choosing an appropriate attack point.

By the end of the two days you will be confident in getting off the paths and tracks on hill walks, and will be able to measure distances over rough terrain.
