The Langdale Pikes: 

Langdale is a beautiful mountain valley to the east of Ambleside in Cumbria. It is one of the most easily accessed valleys in the Lake District and is surrounded by mountains, known as the Langdale Pikes.

Hiking the Langdale Pikes is an adventure that travels thorough some of the most stunning mountain terrain in the UK, and crosses many summits including the mighty Bow Fell (901m), that sits at the head of the valley.

The trek will is led by our expert Mountain Leaders that are qualified, insured and highly experienced. All you need to do is come with sense of adventure; we’ll do the rest. 

Itinerary:

The Langdale Pikes is a hike of approximately 16 km (10 miles), however; the route can be shortened or lengthened to suit the needs, desires and abilities of the group. The itinerary may include the following:

  1. Meet at Stickle Barn. Safety brief and depart.
  2. Ascend Pavy Ark (700 m) by stickle Ghyll. 
  3. Transverse Harrison Stickle (736 m) and Pike O’Stickle (709 m).
  4. Traverse valley edge to Angle Tarn. 
  5. Ascend Bow Fell (901 m) by Ore Gap. 
  6. Descend The Band to The Old Dungeon Ghyll.
  7. Return to Stickle Barn by valley bridle way. 
  8. Debrief and depart.   

Personal Fitness:

Hiking the Langdale Pikes is a 1 day trek of approximately 16 km (10 miles) with a total ascent approximately 1250m. The terrain is mountainous, rough/uneven and sometimes rocky.

Depending on exact route choice, short technical sections may be encountered that require some scrambling at grade 1.

Commitment to the route is moderate. The event is graded moderate in difficulty and is suitable for beginners with good fitness and some experience walking off-road, and a good sense of adventure.

Personal Equipment:

The event costs include specialist equipment such as maps, compasses and first aid equipment etc, that will be carried by our Mountain Leader/s. Participants are required to bring some mandatory personal kit: 

  • Rucksack large enough for all your kit 
  • Walking boots
  • Outdoor clothing (No jeans!) 
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Water bottle
  • Personal medication (if required)
