Book Review // Great British Gravel Rides

I’m a mountain biker but I love this book for inspiring some really interesting and long adventures off road around the UK. The book starts with the usual chapter on safety, and grading of routes but also includes a really good bit on bike maintenance.

All the routes have an overview map, good enough for planning the route, a route description and a section on where to stay, cafes on the route, other cycling in the area and bike shops nearby. All the routes also have gps files available to enable you to navigate whilst on the move.

I know mountain bikers who are a bit sniffy about gravel biking, but I think this book has some fantastic routes in it which everyone who loves getting off tarmac should consider.

There are 26 routes which include the cairngorms, around Blencathra in the Lake District, Tweed Valley (a must in any off-road biking book!) and multi day rides in East Anglia and Scotland. They vary in length too, from 19km to over 100km so there’s definitely something for everyone.
